Payola
About Us Payola
Where Motown meets AC/DC, The Chamber Brothers meets The Band and Funkadelic meets The Beatles and The Stones is where PAYOLA chooses to set up house. Add a touch of Tom Waits and The Staple Singers and you are getting close to what the songs are all about. The intention from the start was to keep things as live and untouched as possible, capture the band in all its ragged and beautiful rockn roll glory, and deliver a set of classic songs that are charismatic, inventive, and echo the spirit of what great albums are made of. Good songs, well crafted, with great harmonies. Music that makes you want to start a band. Singer Solomon Cole - "I've always been a big fan of the live to tape aspect of recording. From the early days of music through to things like the Funk Brothers cutting the Motown rhythm tracks, the mystery that always permeates Tom Waits records, and things like the old Billie Holiday recordings. This 'attitude' I find the most intriguing. To me this is what great music is all about. I can't think of anything more exciting than the rawness, and the sound of being in the room with the artist on a record." They released their debut album Gone To Ground in early 2005, four months after forming. They spent the year touring independently across the country honing a sound and without skipping a beat they are now in pre-production stage for their second platter Medicate
